April Robotics Recap

Hello and welcome to our April newsletter!

April has been a busy and exciting month and we are pleased to welcome four new network members to the community!

  • Hullbot: A Sydney-based startup developing autonomous robots for healthy oceans. Designed from the ground up to autonomously inspect, map and clean the hull of a boat without a human operator present.
  • Applied Robotics: Offers innovative automation solutions for Australian industries, ensuring increased productivity, efficiency, and safety. From factory design to robotics, their exceptional customer service ensures an extraordinary experience from concept to completion.
  • Automaate: Automaate specializes in providing innovative autonomous solutions across diverse industries, from commercial cleaning and security to landscaping and manufacturing. With advanced technology and a focus on efficiency, Automaate's robots automate repetitive tasks, saving businesses time and money while minimizing labor-related risks.
  • SounDelve: Offers challenge courses for mid-career professionals to learn robotics practically within a month. Their program, https://becomearoboticist.com, provides hands-on experience with the Robot Operating System, empowering students to apply their newfound skills in their industries.

A group of Australia’s largest construction companies has come together for the first time to discuss the value and potential of robotics for the sector. The inaugural ‘Australian Construction Robotics Forum’ was hosted in North Sydney on 20 March 2024 by Laing O'Rourke in partnership with Robotics Australia Group. Our chair and founding director, Dr Sue Keay did a presentation at the forum.

Stay tuned for more updates, events, and collaborative endeavors as we continue to shape the future of robotics together!

Member Spotlight!

On this month's Member Spotlight, we feature National Gallery of Australia.

National Gallery of Australia showcases Jordan Wolfson's Body Sculpture, 2023, at Kamberri/Canberra, acquired in 2019.

Jordan Wolfson's Body Sculpture is a robotic work of art, combining sculpture and performance to generate emotional and physical responses in the viewer.

Jordan Wolfson is an artist whose work reflects the situation of the world today. Acting as a witness to the shadow forces within the human condition, Wolfson positions the audience in a physical and moral confrontation with issues facing society and our own place within them.

Wolfson’s animatronic sculptures stage the artist’s desire to reach a deeper register of audience feeling. His works reside at the interface of art history and new technology, drawing from a formal lineage of twentieth-century sculpture as well as images and motifs from the mass media, popular culture and the internet.

This is the first solo presentation of Wolfson’s work in Australia. The world premiere of Body Sculpture, a major acquisition for the national collection, follows Wolfson’s previous animatronic works Female Figure 2014 and Colored Sculpture 2016.

Body Sculpture is shown alongside key works from the national collection selected by the artist, offering further insights into Wolfson’s innovative vision.

Body Sculpture is a free and ticketed art experience, running until 28 July, 2024. The work can be viewed at set performance session times. Sessions are on Sat, Sun, Mon, Thu and Fri.
