Robin's first big demo
We had our first big demo today. We were presenting to a large, multi-billion health system who have a history of backing new health care technology. We are 4 months of development in, and are finally ready to talk about the product in closed room settings. We have a few of these lined up now that we have something to show for our work so far. The interest in our work and in the problem we are solving is quite exciting!
We had been making rapid progress on the product, and had been testing the early product with potential customers. But this is the first time we were going to showcase the product to a large customer in a pitch setting. And not demoware, but the actual core product. It went super well!
The team has worked hard over the past few weeks to ensure things were stable. Its not hard to trigger Murphy's law when demoing a voice based product but thankfully the product is now stable enough that we had few concerns around the demo.
A few observations:
- If you believe in your product and do your homework, then its easy to do these critical pitches. After all, you know more about your mission than most. You are living and breathing it.
- If you attack a super critical problem, there will be a lot of interest in your work. With interest, you get to discuss from a position of strength. That's when the best presentations happen. With confidence and from positions of strength.
- Deeply respect your customers. But always ensure you bring value to the table. Enough value that you are treated with respect too. A great business deal is the meeting of peers who want to mutually benefit each other.
- Practice. practice. practice. Our presentations and demos feel relaxed and casual. But we spend a lot of time practicing that casualness :)
- There are always prime movers and change makers in an org. Identify them. Solicit their support and lean on them. A small crew of influencers is all that is needed to win big markets. We have a few and we are thankful to them!
Loads more learnings. It is awesome to be here. We went from starting to think about an idea, to forming a team, to early code to our first real pitch. And its only a few months!
