Such a shame, don’t let it happen to you….

The news this week about Sir Chris Hoy is absolutely devasting. Even with me banging the drum about Prostate Cancer, it wouldn’t have helped, because my advice was for men over 50, and his has already spread and he is only 48!

What makes this so shocking is that if we had a screening programme, like many others do, and it had been diagnosed early, Sir Chris, like many others, could have been back on his bike in 8 weeks, enjoying a full life, not a life sentence.? I have just returned from a bike event in France and I have learned that in France they get tested every year, certainly from 50, as a matter of course. I appreciate the NHS is on a tight budget, but the cost of a blood test is so small, and the cost of terminal cancer treatment is so high!

Surely it must be a priority to introduce a screening programme - hopefully such a high-profile case as that of Sir Chris Hoy will help gather momentum and support for it - and rather than injections to lose weight to get people working, the NHS can really save lives!! ?????
