Thinking outside the box.....
When life gets hard, and there seems to be no easy solutions, it is sometimes necessary to think outside the box, rather than blame whoever is an easy target. It has therefore surprised me that I have never heard anyone suggest we should have a tax on un-earned income, especially when we need to support workers and encourage businesses to grow.
I can only assume there is a reason, that I don’t know of, why income from playing games, gambling, lottery wins etc is not taxed. It hasn’t been earned, and if, instead of 50 millionaires courtesy of the lottery, there were 50 people who had paid some tax on the £million they have won, without doing any work, surely this would help reduce the government debt ?- not to mention the giveaways on radio and TV, just for sending a text or answering the phone! All the winners would still be substantially better off, and workers wouldn’t be shouldering the load, and farmers could get on with producing food and ensuring we have food security?
Obviously, there is some really good reason as to why this won’t work, so please feel free to tell me why - or is it too radical and outside the box for consideration?
