It’s an up and down world!
Sport is a great illustration of how being good or the best at something depends solely on the individuals involved, it’s not a given. The Rugby World Cup is a prime example – it’s a sport which England has a great history in, but I doubt the current team will enjoy the same success.
In both life and business, the principle remains the same.? You can get to the top, be great at something, but sometimes complacency sets in - you reach your comfort level, lose your drive and determination, and your performance suffers.
It’s much harder to maintain excellence in anything, than it is to achieve it once. So, for those who, year after year, reach the highest levels of performance, whether as individuals or within a team in sports, business or personal endeavours, you belong to a very select few. ?Not many can achieve this, and it’s unlikely that financial incentives are the primary motivation.
We tend to think money motivates, but it runs much deeper. The driving force is the achievement- Money serves as the reward for the achievement, but I don’t think it’s what fuels the likes of Novak Djokovic’s desire to win, he is just driven to be the best.
