21 or 71?
This week sees the release of the new vehicle registration plate, and, if you look closely, you will start to see 71 plate cars on the road.
I can remember when the new registration letter made cars stand out - we had midnight openings so customers could be the first on the road and stand out with their new car. The month of August, particularly 1st August, was a crazy busy time, initially with the age identifying letter at the end of the registration number and then changed to the beginning.?But we all noticed them, and they made a car look new or old.
The system changed in the late 90s and now even we get confused about how old a car is - It has helped us to spread our busy times out over a longer period though, especially away from the summer holiday time, and customers still get the benefit of a new looking registration number.
So watch out for a 71 reg, even though it may not be quite as memorable as my first company car which was a J reg!

3 年Robin indeed August 1st used to be exciting and to some extent September 1st. I think that August 1st 1981 was the most memorable for me, it was a Friday evening and we had 48 new cars ready for release at midnight as Aug 1st was the Saturday. We were having a cheese and Wine party in the showroom and in the end only 14 cars left as 34 drivers were half cut !! I love Prince Philip’s quote !
