Road Toll- Question Why

Every year on this wondrous planet we live on, 1.3 million of us are killed on our roads and many more critically injured. This equates to over 3,500 deaths every day of the year. If these numbers were a health issue or an epidemic issue, governments would act immediately. I just wonder, if we applied OH&S law to Governments, Road Authorities, Car Manufacturers, Large Oil Businesses and even the Police, would some of them be behind bars for industrial manslaughter??? I think they might be????...I spent almost 20 years attending house fires and car accidents and no one has ever been able to give me a logical answer and I mean logical, to a simple question which is this...

If we have speed limits set at 60, 70 80 or even the maximum freeway speed of 110kmh. How and Why are vehicle manufacturers lawfully permitted to sell us cars that will or could do well over 200kmh ungoverned??? They Governed Fork Lifts many years ago as a result of deaths, but no where near the numbers from vehicle accidents. Also we have had technology available for 25 years that could see electronic governors fitted to cars that can control the vehicle speed to limits of the road via sensor technology automatically. So the question must still be asked regarding speeding fines,,,,, It must be really just for revenue raising because if the powers to be were serious about saving lives they would do something about the manufacturing requirements in ensuring vehicles cannot exceed limits and would have implemented sensor technology many many years ago. I feel for all the people who have lost loved ones and frustrated that perhaps many would still be alive if some of the above issues were implemented.

The speed is not the issue. German autobahns are mostly unlimited and are the safest per captia roads in the world. A lot of crashes on highways here in Australia are due to people going to sleep because the speed limits are so low.
