The Road not Taken...

(...or what B-TRNSFRMD is all about)

At the turn of the year, we decided to embark on an adventure of sorts (talk about timing!) - launching a new kind of consulting firm! It has been a longtime coming for those of us who decided to heed this call. There were two clear tipping points that made this launch a natural transition – 1) Secular adoption of digital platforms 2) Current (outdated) SI operating model. In fact, we believe that the two are quite interrelated!

We believe that the future of be-spoke development will slowly be made irrelevant. Will it go away - No! But it will remain the domain of a few, that have the need, resources, and talent to invest in it. A whole class of Digital Technology is taking shape that allows enterprises to meet their needs while innovating at the speed of markets. Gone will be the days of technology projects over years and being at the mercy of IT! To state the obvious, the future does not belong to a silver bullet, but a stack of digital tech – including SaaS, Low-Code, AI and Automation. It is this future and the impact it will have on our clients, that excites us the most!

And this future required us to build a dramatically different operating model…

Over the past years, we realized the SI model is not delivering to the true interest of clients. It is driven by an increasing (obsessive) focus on revenue & profit growth, and prioritizes investor needs over those of Clients! Business teams at Clients are increasing driving projects and are expecting dramatically faster time-to-value for projects. Despite consulting investments, the lack of a deeply integrated business & tech capability is delivering limited benefits to Clients. Their operating model of large project teams billing over years is now under stress by this change in Client priorities!

SI org models are also behind in innovation. The horizontal and vertical structures were geared for an era when clients operated in focus markets, and projects were run as silos. The most telling change is in their ability to retain (or not) the talent. Traditionally SIs have attracted good talent by offering autonomy and the ability to make a difference with their Clients. Global sourcing now prevalent, is still looked upon as a source for labor arbitrage rather than exceptional talent. Current operating model challenges are driving away good talent and limiting their ability to truly innovate for Clients!

We launched B-TRSNFRMD early this year as an independent consulting firm exclusively focused on bringing Clients the business benefits of Agile Digital platforms. We designed our org to put Client needs first, over any other competing priority! (Yes, we say No to our Clients when it is in their interest!)

Enabling Enterprises to Realize Tangible Business Value form Agile Digital Transformations.

During this COVID crisis, we are seeing Clients approach the Digital Future in a very different and urgent imperative and are appreciating our value proposition as even more relevant to their future! We couldn’t be more surprised by the overwhelming support we are receiving from our Clients, Partners and Advisors! Thank you!

The future is not a straight path, but it holds exciting promises – as technology and business innovators! It is the road less travelled, but to believe in Frost – It will make all the difference – to our Clients and us!

Gans, thanks for sharing your story! I love that you prescribe to this too: "Yes, we say No to our clients when it is in their interest!" I don't know how companies can foist needless products and services on clients when they don't need it. Good luck! Your passion will make it happen!
