“I hope that we will come to understand that the underlying problem of transport is the fact that we continue to prioritise the private car over all other forms of transport, including the bus. The status quo must be challenged. If we want to change the status quo we need to make it more convenient to use the bus and less convenient to use private vehicles. This is not rocket science but it's not as simple as making buses free either,” said Dr Marie Briguglio, one of the panellists at The Road to Reliable Public Transport – a business breakfast organised by Times of Malta tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22.

Dr Briguglio is a senior lecturer at the University of Malta, teaching and conducting research in Behavioural Economics and Environmental Economics. She returned to academia after a 15-year career holding senior positions in the public sector. She has since served as Principal Investigator on various research projects on topics of pro-environmental behaviour, circular economy, and wellbeing. Together with Steven Bonello, she is the author of the book No Man's Land, People Place Pollution, awarded the National Book Prize.?She was also recently awarded the STEM engaged researcher award.

‘The Road to Reliable Public Transport’ will be held at the Radisson Blu Resort, St Julian’s, tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22, from 9am till 11.30am. Times of Malta journalist Mark Laurence Zammit will lead the discussion, with various panellists having their say and answering questions from the audience.
