The Road to Peace
By

Life is about crossroads. We get to choose which road we travel on, the path we take and the trail we walk on.
As I hiked last weekend at Oak Ridges Trail in Richmond Hill, I came to a fork in the road leading to two directions.
Coincidentally, I was thinking at that same time about suing someone.
Then I said to myself, “Dane you are at a crossroad, do you choose peace, or do you choose war.” The choice is mine. Either way, I have time and money for either. So, what do I do?
When I looked on the right, the path seemed to lead to a forested area, which appeared longer, more serene, and picturesque and on the left, seemed shorter, eventually ending in a housing development.
There and then I decided to take the longer, more apparently calm, and enjoyable route, the path on the right. The right path, synonymous with the path to peace. It was as simple as that.
I did not come to such a decision after weeks of thinking at home or at my busy office. I broke away from it all to walk in nature where I could rest my mind, relax, get fresh air, and get some much-needed exercise.
Sometimes to make big decisions we need to break away from it all and get a change of scenery.
Not only did I feel better after the long walk, but a weight lifted that the way to peace is the way to go.
The Covid-19 pandemic has thought us all that life is short. We must live each day to the fullest, making a difference in this world.
The road to peace may be longer, it may involve swallowing your pride, staying humble, forgiving those who wronged you, taking a loss, losing some sleep, but in the long run, you can live with your conscience knowing that you did the right thing at the right time, despite the provocation and the wrong you suffered.
What do you stand for? Do you stand for conflict, or do you stand for peace? What is the healthy path for you, your business, and your family?
Let us take the road to peace!

I leave you with some quotes from Nelson Mandela as written in the article “Peace, poverty and race: here are some of Nelson Mandela’s wisest words” by Charlotte Edmond:
“On peace
“It is easy to break down and destroy. The heroes are those who?make peace and build.”
“Peace is?not just the absence of conflict; peace is the creation of an environment where all can flourish, regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, class, caste, or any other social markers of difference. Religion, ethnicity, language, social and cultural practices are elements which enrich human civilization, adding to the wealth of our diversity. Why should they be allowed to become a cause of division and violence? We demean our common humanity by allowing that to happen.”

2 年This is a good read, Dane! Life is about crossroads. Peace is always inevitable, we can find it if we have it first in ourselves. Thanks for sharing this!
