Bridging The Gap Between Design Professionals & Product Manufacturers
LEED case studies allow design professionals to examine completed projects like their own, offering insights into what worked and what didn't. This knowledge can inform design decisions and help avoid repeating mistakes. LEED case studies can help design professionals explore various design solutions by analyzing case studies of similar projects. This exploration can spark creativity and innovation by presenting alternative approaches and unconventional ideas.
What if sustainable design didn’t exist? What if there was no green building ratings system like LEED? Imagine a reality where the soothing hum of sustainable design is drowned out by the deafening roar of environmental degradation. Picture a landscape where towering skyscrapers are shrouded in smog, where once-glistening rivers run thick with toxins, and where the very air we breathe is tainted by the echoes of our neglect.
In this harrowing narrative, design professionals are not merely creators of spaces but guardians of a fragile ecosystem teetering on the brink of collapse. As the guardians of our built environment, design professionals wield immense power—a power that, if misused, can spell the demise of our planet.

The Boston Public Market Association, a registered 501 C3 not-for-profit organization , developed and operates the Market with public impact goals to support: economic development, New England food system resilience, public health and education, affordability, and access. The Boston Public Market, established in 2015, is a vibrant indoor marketplace that supports economic development, food system resilience, public health, education, affordability, and access in New England. It represents a collaborative effort between the Boston Public Market Association, donors, foundations, the City of Boston, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as the seed funder. The market features New England artisans and food producers, offering a variety of fresh foods, prepared meals, and specialty items, all under one roof.
Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity is grounded in the Boston Public Market’s mission to cultivate a diverse community around food – for the simple reason that the convening power of food offers an opportunity to nourish the entire community with experiences, conversations, and education. The market strives to identify the barriers, in particular for small business owners of color, and be thoughtful about methods in which the Boston Public Market can contribute to mitigating those roadblocks. The situation requires a dynamic approach to determine how to best shepherd in a new, diverse generation of entrepreneurs into the existing, supportive community of local vendors.
Through displays, signage and active instruction, the entire market is designed as a platform for public education. Building-scale signs, exterior lighting, and window decals designed as part of the project announce the market as the cornerstone of the emerging market district. The Market supports local agriculture and promotes land conservation while reducing carbon emissions associated with food transport by air.
The Market is located directly above the Haymarket MBTA station and three blocks from North Station and is served by two nearby Hubway bike share stations, promoting low-emissions visits. The design minimizes energy and water use while providing for recycling and composting. Designed to meet LEED v4 standards for Interior Design & Construction , the project is certified LEED Silver and received a prestigious design award from AIA New England.
The project was certified silver on September 28th, 2017. The project was awarded fifty-seven points and was in the top twenty four percent of projects in this ratings system version. The project scored eighteen points in the energy and atmosphere category, four points in the materials and resources category, eight points in the indoor environmental quality category, and four points in the water efficiency category. The Boston Public Market is a public showcase for sustainable design and innovation.
