Guess What - we are all wonderfully different!
Hi again everyone!
I am a member of a few professional theatre groups of which one posted an interesting question this week. The question was "What celebrated and successful shows did you personally think were terrible?I was shocked by some of the responses because some of my all time favorites made the list of shows other people hated. Some of the names on the most hated list are Hamilton; West Side Story; Wicked; In The Heights; - just to name a few. I happen to love all of those shows!
But more amazing that everyone's most hated list was that fact that nobody criticized anyone for their choices! There seemed to be a natural understanding that we all have our preferences based on an array of factors that are very personal to us. The online conversation was cordial and fun as we explored our differences in a constructive, teachable manner.
How much better would life be if we used the same approach in other areas. Perhaps the first thing we need to do is simply acknowledge that we were designed by a loving God as unique individuals. Therefore we will have differences of opinion on practically everything and that is a good thing. Imagine how much more we could accomplish if we allowed ourselves to learn from our differences instead of bashing each other? Perhaps then we could have instructive, helpful, conversations on politics, religion, and everything else that is now balkanizing the nation and the world!
I am learning a lot on my personal journey to produce my show on Broadway and one of the best lessons is that there are so many wonderfully, diverse, stories to be told. I look forward to telling mine and learning from yours!
