The Road Ahead: What's happening with BizOneness.

#Bizoneness

If you’ve noticed over the last year, this column had to take a hiatus. I wanted to tell you what is happening and where we are going in the future.

Scientific Devie Laboratory had been a family business since my parents started it to fund my sister's and my college education many decades ago, but the company got bigger than a mere side gig. About two years ago, my dad and I started the process of selling it to someone else. As CIO and heir to the company, I was a principal part of the team involved in that effort.

In April 2024, that process was completed, and SDL was acquired by another company. I was offered a six-month contract to help with the migration of IT resources with a few contingencies: I could have another six months on the original contract if necessary for the migration or if there was a position open for me to continue. I also had many restrictions on how I made this column.

Recently, I found there was no position for me to continue in. I knew this was a real possibility, when I became involved in the buyout process. Unfortunately, if there are no positions, there are no positions.

The last six months have been very busy helping smooth out the transition between companies, I put 100% effort into that which also cuts into the time I have to do this column. With the end of my contract a month from when I post this, much of this will change. Besides being unemployed for the first time since 1991, I have a lot of decisions to make and work to do.

I have linked in learning courses planned for iOS development for a few months out, and I'll start looking for courses in the business library as well. There are a couple of areas I'd like to explore in SAP. Some I'll do in this column, on LinkedIn, and on YouTube.

I'm sort of stuck until December as to what I can do. But I do have a few things I want to explore as I get retooled for whatever is next.

The next two Bizoneness newsletters, launching next week will be on vendor price lists. I plan to keep to a biweekly Bizoneness and fill in the newsletter with other tech and business topics on alternate weeks.

One I'll launch shortly, is a different explanation of ERP systems in general: using Excel spreadsheets. We'll build together a Spreadsheet-based ERP to explain how all this works and some of the decisions SAP and others made regarding their ERP systems.

I’ll also post more about Vision Pro and other tech topics.

I have plans to cover a few topics in SAP as I ramp up in the future:

* How groups are a critical bridge between A/R, A/P and the general ledger

* Exporting Barcode information to Excel

* Some cool features of Crystal reports you may not know

* Connecting to other data sources than SAP, including Spreadsheets, in Crystal Reports

* Thoughts about migration to and from SAP Business One

I'm back, and you'll start seeing things here very shortly. I still have a lot of thinking about loner term plans, but I am looking forward to the road ahead. As sad as I am to no longer have a place in what was once my family's business, I am excited about where I can take my talents in the next few decades.

Stay tuned...

I know you're trying to be positive but that must be both exciting and terrifying. I've had clothes and pets that long but not a job! Congratulations on this next phase of your career!
