Vulnerability....

Here I go...{gulp, gulp}

I don't do vulnerability well...lol! if you know me at all, or spent time with me, you know that.

Yesterday, my friend John Livesay sent me a Brené Brown video on Vulnerability. I ALMOST sent him a WTF? response...GRRRR.

But I opened and watched, it was beautiful. My FAVORITE part is when she says

'don't step over broken glass to please others'

I found myself in tears. And then I asked myself 'why are you upset here?'

My father's face came to my mind. I am not in communication with my father, we had a falling out years ago and that was that.

Something, I must admit, (and I do not like admitting anything positive about him) is that he was this MASTER story teller.

I would sit in the living room for hours, listening to many of this life stories. (He loved talking about himself) he would share his time in the Army In Vietnam, he would share about all of his large business ventures in the Oil Business in the 80's, he would share stories how he won this case in some lawsuit, how he sold his business...on and on.

And I was a sponge. I would just listen.

As the rest of the family, his wife and two other kids (half sister and brother) would ignore him and go into the other room, I gave him the stage.

Just listening.

I guess it would come as a shock to him, that I write books, and I have shared my story in a storytelling way over 400+ times.

As I prepare for the STORYTELLING Masterclass with John, this Friday, I began to reflect, on my own storytelling skills.

I do NOT consider myself a Master, I have learned a ton from John and his course I have taken 'Go from Invisible to Irresistible' - he has showed me the art and structure of storytelling.

Now I can replicate and create better selling stories around my products and services through storytelling on podcasts, interviews, social media posts and more...

BUT I MUST ACKNOWLEDGE: My Father. For being my first teacher, in storytelling. The truly best way to share our lives, to share our experiences (good and bad) to help others, to encourage others and to impact others.

I invite you to join me on Friday September 11, 2020

What a beautiful story Heather! The more vulnerable we are then the more people can connect to us. When we let go of needing to be seen as perfect others can connect to our vulnerabilities.
