Road Accidents
Road accidents are a common feature of our lives, wherever we are. We also know what is the main cause of accidents: HUMAN ERROR, in other words, drivers' mistake.
This short post is just to ask why the law enforcement agencies are not using common sense to 'nail' drivers, since the main cause of human error is also known as lack of concentration on the drivers' part as a result of another main reason: Hand-held equipments, or mobile phones, if you like.
All the police need to do is to check if the driver's phone was in use at the time of the accident, and this is also easy like A,B,C even if the active calls or SMS records are deleted. Once this confirmation is made, that particular driver should be held fully responsible for that accident and charged appropriately. Most legislations dictate that even if a driver had a hands-free aide to the phone communication, their concentration and hence judgement is impaired, therefore, it matters precious little that the driver had a bluetooth connection, they are liable.
We must all make the necessary efforts to reduce road carnage by enforcing the law of 'no talking on the phone while driving.' Great will be the day when many drivers would pull off the road side to make calls. Drivers' phones should be off when they are on the wheel. PERIOD
