Copper SFP transceiver is convenient for operators to deploy their network systems.Copper SFP module can be plugged directly into the existing copper cabling system,which can make seamless upgrades and replacements by minimizing network disruptions.While if you choose optical transceiver, you have to tear down the existing copper cabling and redeploy the fiber cabling.You can continue to use the legacy copper cabling solution deployment or upgrade your network to save your cost once more.

4.What’s the difference between copper transceiver&optical transceiver?

RJ45 copper transceiver module and optical transceiver module are different from each other in actual application scenarios,but how to choose the RJ45 copper transceiver and optical transceiver depends on their advantages and disadvantages in different scenarios.Then we will talk about the difference of the two transceiver.

We will talk about the difference between copper transceiver&optical transceiver from five dimensions.

①Base on the transmission principle to distinguish

Optical transceiver transform the electrical signal to optical signal by TOSA and transform the optical signal to the electrical signal by ROSA .But the RJ45 copper transceiver only can transmit the electrical signal.

②Base on the transmission interface to distinguish

RJ45 copper transceiver use the RJ45 interface connecter,but the optical transceiver interface connecter contains LC(duplex or simplex),SC and MPO and the others interface connector which is suit for MMF transmission.

③Base on the transmission media to distinguish

RJ45 copper transceiver use the Cat5/Cat6/Cat7 patch cables to transmit the data.Optical transceiver modules use the optical fiber to transmit the data.

④Base on the transmission reach to distinguish

RJ45 copper transceiver can reach 100M in maximum,but optical transceiver can reach more than 100KM(from 100M to 160KM).

⑤Base on the parameter to distinguish

RJ45 Copper transceiver doesn’t involves to wavelength and DDM info,but most of the optical transceiver involves to these wavelength 850nm/1310nm/1550nm and the other wavelength, and DDM info.Because of the laser device which is the key parts in optical transceiver,the power dissipation of RJ45 copper transceiver is less than optical transceiver.

5.RJ45 copper transceiver application

To sum up, RJ45 copper transceiver is a cost-effective and solution for data center and cabinet wiring which is suite for the transmission distance less the 100M. In the access layer of data center,most server network NIC and storage device use the 10GBase-T RJ45 connection port,and the other side which is connect the TOR switch use SFP+ connection port usually,but they can’t connect each other straightly.Luckily,the RJ45 copper transceiver came out to solve the problem that carry out interconnect between 10G RJ45 copper interface network device and SFP+ interface switch.Below is one of the solutions for 10GBase-T optical transceiver modules for your reference.
