Risks are NOT like wine… they don’t age well!

Why do so many professionals say they are managing projects, when, in fact, what they are actually doing is firefighting?!
We all know the difference between risk and issue, right? It is the level of certainty that a certain event may occur… and in the case of an issue, the probability is 100%, as it’s already there.
However, we seem to always lack the time to do proper risk management upfront: there's never enough time to do it right the first time, but we always find time to fix it and do it again when it’s wrong!
As many other project management activities, risk management requires a bit of discipline: if you don’t identify your risks, you are already taking them… while the more we anticipate and manage those risks proactively, the fewer issues & firefighting there will be down the line…
So if you don’t manage your risks, they will manage you ??

1 年I fully agree and sometimes avoiding the risk is just as easy as using a rope (on the picture ??)

1 年Hi David, I agree. Managing risks when they occur is much more costly than Managing them upfront!
