Be a Risk Taker. Don't Hide in the Shadows.

"Wait, be careful, you want everyone to think you are credible", "Don't take that risk, yet", "You need more experience", does this sound familiar?

I have noticed a pattern over the last 25 years of my life. Every time, I stepped out to do something new, there is always unsolicited advice from the onlookers. At first, I would take the advice, make no movement, research, solicit feedback, research, solicit feedback, when eventually I did not take any action at all.

I have come to realize that many people never achieve their full potential because they have dream killers in their lives. We have to create goals that are outside of our comfortable zone because in order to do something you have never done, you have to become someone you have never been.

How the heck can you do that, when people are not cheering you on, but waiting for your demise? I call them dream killers and over the course of my life, I have encountered many. I also had to learn how to deal with them as well.

Here are some tips on how to deal with dream killers:

1. Know its really not about you. When they give you advice, they may believe it's actually about you but it's actually about them. I have come to recognize beneath that tough exterior, exists a person that is actually afraid that you may surpass them in life. They are afraid that you will make the impossible - possible. Your dreams might take away their excuses for why they never started or stopped.
2. Guard your dreams as if you life depends on it, because it does. It is okay to not share your BIG dreams with small minded people. Sometimes, you will be in the fight of your life to keep your dream alive because some of the people around you will fight just as equally hard to destroy them. Always remember "why" you started.
3. Find your community. Just as easily we find people who want to destroy our dreams, there are other people who not only believe in you but will uplift you and propel you to the next level. These are the kind of people you want in your life. Find them.

Don't allow others to kill your dreams, just because someone killed theirs. So, the next time someone try to destroy your dreams, just tell them with that arrogant swagger , that there is nothing for them here. Just keep on moving, keep on striving and keep on breaking boundaries.
