Using Behaviour Design to find the simplest ways to solve gargantuan problems
As our perceived sense of safety goes up, we tend to take greater risks and apparently work pretty hard to negate any benefits of that safety feature. So as to almost make the number of accidents with that safety feature the same as the number of accidents without it.
Studies have been conducted in several contexts - helmets, seat belts, anti-lock brakes, condoms and so on. I'm not even remotely suggesting that we stop using any of these. These are highly efficacious & necessary. But when we have one of these on the next time, it will do us well to act & behave like it's not there at all.
