RisingWave Newsletter December 2023

RisingWave Newsletter December 2023

?? December is a month to reflect and toot your own horns about the triumphs of the past year. Let's make no exceptions, then! ??

2023 was a roaring success for us at RisingWave. We launched RisingWave Cloud GA in June, while we rolled out new version releases of RisingWave Database month after month. For those of you who missed it, RisingWave Cloud is available on AWS, GCP and Azure Marketplace now, and wrapping up the year, we've transitioned from open-source adopters only to a number of satisfied customers. At the same time, our community continued to grow and thrive: we soared beyond 5k GitHub stars, far exceeded 1200 members in our community Slack, and recently hit 7k followers on LinkedIn. We completed the picture by supporting top-tier data events, hosting numerous in-person meetups, participating in a number of online events, including launching our own webinar series, Streaming Stories.

This is but a glimpse of the last year!

Strap in tight; the blueprints are laid—2024 is going to be spectacular! ?? ?? ??

RisingWave Cloud

RisingWave Cloud introduces some major new features this month:

  • Organization management. This month, RisingWave Cloud introduces organizations, which allow multiple users to share resources, especially provisioned clusters, on RisingWave Cloud. To get started, simply invite your colleagues by adding their email addresses. RisingWave Cloud will send them the invitation code and lead them to their sign-up process. After accepting the invitation and finishing the sign-up process, both accounts can visit and manage the same set of clusters owned by the organization

  • Enterprise SSO Login. Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication method that allows a user to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials. With SSO, users can enjoy increased productivity and enhanced security in complex enterprise IT environments. Now, RisingWave Cloud supports SSO login via the SAML authentication framework. Any identity provider compatible with SAML can configure the credential and login with the configured email address.

  • Billing system. The billing system is finally online! To our customers: you don’t have to bother our sales all the time to tell you the current usage anymore! RisingWave Cloud can tell you directly what your current spending is this month and break down the details of your spending. For now, all previous clusters are still either free-tier or invited free clusters.

RisingWave Database

  • SHOW PROCESSLIST and KILL Command Duo: RisingWave now empowers system administrators with the SHOW PROCESSLIST and KILL commands to handle stalled streaming jobs. Kill problematic jobs, optimize your queries, rerun materialized views – all with smooth control.
  • Ownership Made Easy: Reassigning database object ownership is now possible with RisingWave's support for ALTER object SET OWNER TO statements. ?This command grants full control, allowing the new owner to perform any action with the object. It’s pretty useful during a department reorg, where original owners need the ability to reassign database objects to new owners.
  • Introducing RisingWave’s standalone mode. We launched standalone mode, tailored for single-node deployments and quick proof-of-concept testing. This new deployment combines MetaNode, Frontend, and Compactor into one process, cutting infrastructure costs by up to 60% for the most basic deployments

The heartbeat of RisingWave in 2023—and forever? The RisingWave community! ??We have a lot in store for next year, and we’d love to see your thoughts become a compass guiding our path. For starters, we have a dazzling new community visual identity going live in January, just the prelude for many more exciting developments. What exactly? Well, that's where your voice comes in!
