RisingWave Newsletter April 2023

There is something truly special about April. Last year, on April 8th, after more than a year of hard work far away from the limelight, RisingWave was open sourced. Then, two weeks ago, on April 11th, we were excited to announce the beta release of RisingWave Cloud, a hosted service that provides out-of-the-box RisingWave service.

But we didn't stop there. We started to gear up for several events we are proud to sponsor: the Real-Time Analytics Summit, the Kafka Summit, and the Pulsar Virtual Summit Europe (for details, please scroll below). We also unveiled a brand-new Events page and are thrilled to share a new virtual home for Streaming stories.

Product Updates

This month, we launched RisingWave Cloud beta, which delivers:

• Fully managed service;
• Unparalleled User Experience;
• Reduced costs;

We rolled out the full set of documentation for RisingWave Cloud. Check it out here.

To see how to use RisingWave to ingest and process streaming data, here is a demo you can watch.

We also released version 0.18.0. of RisingWave Database. Some of the key changes include:

• a telemetry module to better understand how the community is using RisingWave;
• support for JSONB data type;
• initial support for user-defined functions;
• the Iceberg connector, which allows users to sink data from RisingWave to Iceberg;
• removal of the message name parameter for Avro data;
• support for the upsert type to the Kafka sink connector.

New Docs

We continue to add syntax diagrams to the SQL command pages. Almost all SQL commands now have diagram syntaxes.

New articles and how-to guide we published in April:

• Fault tolerance;
• Data persistence;
• Sink data from RisingWave to PostgreSQL.

Finally, we released a new client library for Go.
