#RisingToTheChallenge: Chi Tran
Can you briefly give us some background on your professional journey to date?
I started my career as a researcher at Vietnam National University (VNU) where I graduated from. When Vietnam opened its doors to the world in the 1990s, I joined a group of colleagues from VNU to start a company, supplying scientific equipment from the G7 countries to Vietnam.
In 2009, I joined DuPont as a Business Development Manager, and later became the ASEAN Sales Manager and DuPont Vietnam CEO.
In 2020, I then joined GE Vietnam in a business development role and not long after, became the Government Engagement Director. I drive GE's government engagement activities and advise GE businesses on a broad range of policy and regulatory issues across all GE businesses including energy, renewables, aviation and previously healthcare.
What inspired you to join GE?
GE is global leader in innovation and core infrastructure areas that are critical to Vietnam's growth. GE’s equipment and technology contributes about 30% of Vietnam's total electricity production, and its advanced aircraft engines power more than half of the aircraft in ASEAN, including Vietnam. I wanted to be part of a company that plays such a significant role in my country's development.
I was also impressed by GE's culture, that emphasizes integrity, which is fundamental to me, as well as the supportive work culture, transparency, innovation, and customer-focused delivery. All these values align with my personal beliefs.
What work are you most passionate about doing at GE?
I'm most passionate about driving innovation and growth at GE. I'm excited about contributing to the development and implementation of technology by bringing GE’s cutting-edge technology and solutions to Vietnam in order to help the country transition towards more sustainable energy and aviation. At GE, we have a long history of developing advanced technology that can address some of the world's biggest challenges, and I find it incredibly rewarding to be a part of that.

What are you looking forward to in 2023 for GE in Vietnam?
In 2023, I am particularly excited to see GE's activities in the energy transition. GE is participating in a number of key projects in many areas of the energy industry that will help mitigate power shortages in Vietnam, including deploying renewable energy, transitioning from coal to gas/LNG, increasing grid reliability and digital transformation.
As we work towards building a more sustainable future, I believe that these technologies will play an increasingly important role in helping to meet the country's energy needs while reducing its carbon footprint. I believe GE's commitment to sustainability and innovation will continue to make a positive impact in Vietnam and I’m excited to be able to play a role in making that happen.
How has your journey as a woman leader been?
I am lucky to work for a multinational organization that fosters inclusion and appreciates diversity. Through ERG groups such as the Women’s Network, women do get strong support and opportunities from the company and its leaders to further enhance their skills and develop their careers.
What would be your advice to other women professionals who are just starting out?
My advice to other women professionals who are just starting out would be to continue building your self-confidence and never give up when you face challenges. Don't be afraid to speak up, do take risks, and pursue opportunities that challenge you as they will eventually help you grow, both personally and professionally.
