A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats
Launching the next chapter of a global movement
The members of the Eliminate Downtime Committee and their extended network recently came together at a Round Table to kick-off the next chapter of a global movement.
I’m energized from the great feedback that the whitebook “100 Ways to Eliminate Downtime” has received from the construction community and excited about launching the next step in the journey. The challenge ahead of us: How can everyone in the construction value chain benefit from sharing data?
Why data-sharing is the future of construction
Along with the global pandemic came unprecedented change in the way we collaborate and work together. You have most likely experienced it yourself: Being digitally connected has become more relevant than ever – in our private lives as well as the workplace. We’re seeing the advantages that technologic capabilities bring to organizations and I’m certain that those who are now taking up the challenge to really accelerate digital will lead in the future.
The construction industry has been struggling with closing the productivity gap to other industries before the pandemic already. The urge for taking action to prevent miscommunication, establish more efficient processes across the ecosystem and to finally create better customer value is now even more prominent. What we have learned during the first phase of the Eliminate Downtime Journey is that sharing data more openly is one solution that will drive the industry forward.
Other industries have demonstrated the value of sharing once the initial resistance to change is overcome. Read my latest blogpost where I outline what other industries have achieved with data-sharing and what construction can learn from it.
The Next Chapter – A Blueprint for Success
After one year of running the Eliminate Downtime program and gaining an understanding of the main problem themes, we have now launched the next chapter of the movement. We aim to co-create a blueprint across the construction value chain mapping out pain points and use cases for data-sharing.
Collaboration is at the heart of all these activities, working together closely with the members of the Eliminate Downtime Committee and their extended network. Our main goal with the blueprint is to show the value that data-sharing can bring to every step in the value-chain and to inspire new ways of thinking and partnerships for a brighter future in construction. 4 年No way around sharing data - must of course come with a higher standard of security + trust. Take for eg construction equipment equipped with IoT / telematics devices controlled via Smartphones becoming the standard, which is already happening! OEM will not want a foreign hacking group shut down their fleet - as it happened in Automotive in China! Same goes with Feature as a Service being remotely hacked - zero $ earned and a whole business model at stake! Openeness comes with an increased perception of security + trust - we see that in talking to OEM!
