Unlocking the Future of Entertainment: "Insights from LA TechWeek’s Rising Studios and Entertainment Tech Frontiers" Panel, Sponsored by ElevenLabs

Last night I attended the LA Tech Week session - Rising Studios and Entertainment Tech Frontiers. It was hosted by ElevenLabs.

LA Tech Week:

The session dove deep into how fast-growing AI studios are transforming content production through the power of Generative AI and ML/LLM entertainment technologies.

The panel was moderated by Ben Budde, VP of GTM at ElevenLabs, included insights from industry pioneers: Luisa Huang, COO and Co-founder of Toonstar a next-gen animation story studio; Klaus Badelt, Co-founder of Filmhub and award-winning film composer; and Emilie Drishinski, US Head of Media and Entertainment at ElevenLabs.

Here are the key takeaways from their discussions on the evolving landscape of content creation:

1. Breaking Traditional Barriers to Entry for Content Creators

  • Luisa Huang shared her journey in co-founding Toonstar, a studio designed to bypass the traditional "gatekeeper economy" that has long made it difficult for new creators and stories to emerge. She noted that Toonstar was born out of the frustration with expensive and lengthy production pipelines, particularly in animation, and the desire to empower creators by offering direct-to-consumer distribution.
  • Toonstar is the home of StEvEn & Parker an animated series about the antics of Parker James and StEvEn. StEvEn & Parker has almost 3M followers on YouTube.
  • StEvEn & Parker is an animated series co-created by Dallas-based content creator Parker James, with Toonstar as producer. The weekly YouTube series garners around 30 million unique weekly viewers between its English-, Spanish- and Portuguese-language channels, which use AI natural-language dubbing technology.
  • Toonstar has launched an AI creators studio off the back of StEvEn & Parker's success. Toonstar aims to co-produce low-cost animation franchises through partnerships with popular digital creatives, using an AI-powered production engine that produces professional-quality animation quickly.

“We wanted to empower creators and storytellers to bring forth their ideas, find an audience, and build an economy around their stories and talents” Luisa Huang- Toonstar

2. Democratizing Film Distribution

  • Klaus Badelt, co-founder of Filmhub, emphasized the need for technology to make film distribution more accessible. Filmhub uses tech to streamline the process, allowing creators to upload films and gain access to major streaming services.

“Filmhub was built to enable filmmakers to distribute their films directly, bypassing gatekeepers and letting creators keep control of their content. This isn’t just for the top 2%, it's for everyone”. Klaus Badel - Filmhub

3. AI in Content Creation – A Game Changer

  • Emilie Drishinski highlighted how ElevenLabs uses AI to transform traditional content workflows. She showcased their voice and dubbing technologies that allow creators to localize content at a fraction of the time and cost previously required. From scratch dialogue generation to real-time dubbing, ElevenLabs' technology enables creators to produce content faster while maintaining creative integrity.

“Being able to generate audio with AI in any voice, tone, or emotion on the fly has revolutionized the pre-production process” Emilie Drishinski - ElevenLabs

4. The Convergence of Creativity and Technology

  • All panelists agreed that technology, particularly AI, empowers rather than replaces talent. Klaus Badelt discussed how AI assists creatives in refining their work, not replacing it.

“The key is to use this technology to enhance your creativity. AI can empower creatives to pitch, refine, and even execute ideas more effectively”. Klaus Badelt

5. The Importance of Ethics and Transparency in AI

  • Luisa Huang stressed the importance of ethical AI, ensuring creators are compensated for their work. She described how Toonstar’s pipeline maintains transparency by only using AI models trained on commissioned artwork.

“Being ethical isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s good business. Creators and audiences care about transparency, and ethical AI use ensures a sustainable future for content creation” Luisa Huang

6. Looking Toward the Future: Personalization and Global Reach

  • The future of entertainment, according to the panelists, lies in personalized, immersive experiences powered by AI.
  • Luisa Huang gave a glimpse into Toonstar’s innovative community-driven storytelling model, where audiences vote on plot directions in real-time.
  • Emilie Drishinski also pointed out how AI-driven dubbing could revolutionize content localization, giving creators the ability to reach global audiences more efficiently.

Summary

The session - Rising Studios and Entertainment Tech Frontiers at LA #TechWeek was a great reminder of how the intersection of creativity and technology is transforming the entertainment industry.

By embracing AI and other new tools, creators can break free of the old constraints, reach wider audiences, and, most importantly, retain control over their stories. As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, these technologies will only become more integral to the production process, unlocking new possibilities for innovation and expression.

How Chatmosa Can Help Increase Your Content Reach

Note: If you are a "Rising Studio, Influencer or Creator" and would like to increase your cross-platform reach, you should consider using Chatmosa to create real-time interactive podcasting, centered around you and your content.

About: Chatmosa is an interactive productivity application designed for traditional broadcasters and podcasters to effortlessly create content through real-time audio conversations and AI-powered tools. Our mission is to cultivate vibrant communities around content by bridging the gap between traditional podcasting and interactive media.

Problem & Solution: Media consumers rely heavily on podcasts and social audio to stay informed and inspired. Many people prefer real-time information and engagement, however producing podcasts takes too much time to be truly real-time, and social audio platforms often aren’t where my community is active. Plus, Zoom fatigue is a real challenge, especially for women facing biases related to age, race, weight, and the restriction of being tied to one place, unable to multitask.
