RISING STRONG - A GUIDE TO BUILDING RESILIENCE AND MENTAL TOUGHNESS

Are you facing tough times in your life? Do you feel like giving up? Can resilience be learned, or is it something that you're born with? Well, let me tell you that tough times are temporary, but your resilience can be permanent. Resilience is the ability to adapt to and recover from stress and adversity. It's the key to success and happiness in life. Resilience is a valuable quality to possess in both personal and professional life. It can help individuals cope with stress, overcome obstacles, improve mental health, build stronger relationships, and achieve success.

And in this blog, I'm going to share with you some strategies on how to build resilience in tough times.

I recently conducted my signature workshop " Happiness Engineering - focused on Building Resilience Happiness Engineering is based on the science of happiness -positive psychology. This workshop was for site engineers who are working at the expressway construction site. They have to work in high temperatures, face daily challenges, and stay away from their family. You may be going through tough times now, All I want you to do is accept the current situation and not complain about it or engage in self-pity. Look at it as a situation to rediscover and reinvent yourself. Here are some techniques you can use to build resilience in tough times.

  1. Focus on what you can control - In challenging situations, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. However, focusing on what you can control can help you feel more empowered. Instead of dwelling on what you can't change, focus on what you can do to make the situation better.
  2. Practice gratitude - Gratitude is a powerful tool for building resilience. When you focus on the things you are thankful for, you shift your attention away from negative thoughts and emotions. Take time each day to reflect on the things you are grateful for, no matter how small.
  3. Develop a positive attitude - A positive attitude can help you navigate tough times with greater ease. Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects of your situation, focus on the positive. Look for opportunities to learn and grow from your experiences, and find ways to stay hopeful and optimistic.
  4. Build a support network - Surrounding yourself with tough people doesn't just mean seeking out high-achieving individuals. It also means building a supportive network of friends and family who encourage and motivate you. Seek out people who believe in you and are willing to provide emotional support and encouragement when you need it. Be with people who are resilient, I am sure you will find many around you.
  5. Emulate the behaviors of tough people -If you can't surround yourself with tough people directly, try to emulate the behaviors of those you admire. Read books and articles written by resilient and mentally tough individuals, watch interviews and documentaries about high achievers, and seek out other sources of inspiration that can help you cultivate mental toughness. Dedicate 10 min every day to watch videos on stories of resilient people, This will inspire you to become mentally tough. It will also give you hope and patience to go through the tough situation victoriously.
  6. Identify your fears -The first step in challenging your fears is to identify them. Take the time to reflect on the things that scare you, whether it's speaking in public, trying a new activity, or confronting a difficult conversation. Write them down and make a plan to address them.
  7. Embrace discomfort – This is an interesting one as we all love to live in our comfort zones, Push yourself by doing tough things! Go for that workout, run an extra mile, swim a little longer, Take a cold shower, or go for a trek! Join a program like an outbound resilience-building workshop. I conduct the Firewalk Breakthrough which helps people break their mindset barriers and overcome fear. Seek adventure and face your fears. Adventure is often uncomfortable and challenging. Embrace the discomfort and focus on the growth and learning that comes from pushing past your limits. Embracing discomfort can help you develop mental toughness and resilience that you can apply to other areas of life. This is one of my special goals for this year, I plan to solo travel and face my fears!

8. Practice positive self-talk-?Last but not least and the most important one, When faced with tough situations we often like to blame others or engage in self-pity or self-critical talks. Now this is the time in your life for a complete transformation as powerful beliefs are being formed. You can either rise like a phoenix or succumb to the pressure and forever live a life of self-pity and bitterness so be very careful of your self-talk during this time. Positive self-talk during tough times can be a powerful tool to help you overcome obstacles and maintain a positive outlook. Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts and feelings, try to reframe them in a more positive light. This might involve reminding yourself of your strengths, focusing on what you can control, or visualizing a positive outcome. By consciously directing your thoughts towards the positive, you can cultivate a more optimistic mindset and build resilience in the face of adversity. Remember to be kind to yourself and celebrate your progress, no matter how small it may seem. With practice, positive self-talk can become a habit that helps you navigate tough times with greater ease and confidence.

?

In conclusion, building resilience in tough times requires effort and commitment. But by adopting a growth mindset, practicing self-care, seeking support, focusing on what you can control, practicing gratitude, and developing a positive attitude, you can overcome any challenge that comes your way. Remember, tough times don't last, but resilient people do. Keep going, my dear reader, and never give up!
