Khalifa University (KU) is a comprehensive research university located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Named after the current President of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa (Ruler of Abu Dhabi), the university was established in early 2017 through the merger of the original Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), Masdar Institute, and the Petroleum Institute. As a higher education institution vigorously developed by the Abu Dhabi government, Khalifa University places a strong emphasis on scientific research, adopting the American educational system. The university boasts 400 professors from over 40 countries, many of whom have graduated from or taught at top universities worldwide. In the 2023 QS World University Rankings, Khalifa University was ranked 181st globally and 37th in Asia, making it one of the leading institutions in the Middle East and Africa region.
Khalifa University offers a multicultural environment with a rich student life experience. The campus spans over 250,000 square meters and includes more than 20,000 square meters of dedicated laboratory and research space, along with 16 specialized research centers. These research centers focus on various challenges in energy, water, aerospace, and information and communication technology. The university also has over 228 state-of-the-art laboratories conducting research in areas such as artificial intelligence and robotics, clean energy, hydrocarbons, and aerospace. Additionally, the campus features three demonstration facilities in solar energy, sustainable construction, and bioenergy.
Khalifa University provides tuition waivers and stipend support for both undergraduate and Emirati undergraduate graduates. All academic programs are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education's CAA. The preparatory program equips students with lifelong learning skills, both academic and non-academic, to successfully begin their undergraduate studies. The preparatory courses include chemistry, mathematics, physics, and English. Undergraduate programs cover nearly all engineering disciplines, including mechanical, materials, biological, electrical, chemical, environmental, petroleum, nuclear, and aerospace engineering.
