Statistics show that companies are facing a critical need to scale their training and coaching efforts to address significant skill gaps and other workplace challenges. Currently, 50% of employees in the US and UK are considering quitting their jobs, largely due to dissatisfaction with their managers, as 84% believe their managers make their jobs harder. Additionally, 80% of leaders are promoted without formal training, costing businesses $1 trillion annually in poor leadership.[i]
Industry leaders have shared their insights on these pressing issues. Matt Breitfelder, Global Head of Human Capital at Apollo Global Management, highlighted the need to engage a vast workforce of 300,000 people. Before implementing AI tools, 80% of their engagement data was negative, underscoring the necessity of innovative solutions.
Nicole Forward, Head of Executive Coaching and Feedback at Netflix, noted that managers are often overwhelmed with daily challenges and seek practical support. AI coaches provide this tactical support by offering ideas and asking pertinent questions. She emphasized the importance of setting reasonable expectations and differentiating between AI and human coaches. While AI coaches focus on DOING coaching, human coaches concentrate on the essence of BEING a coach.
Parker Mitchell, CEO at Valence, pointed out that time management is the primary struggle for managers. This challenge underscores the value of AI tools in providing efficient and targeted support.
Data from Ezra supports these observations, revealing that 87% of organizations currently face or anticipate a skills gap. Modern employees dedicate only 1% of their weekly time to development while being inundated with 6,000 to 10,000 ads daily. They spend 25% of their time on emails, unlocking their smartphones 150 times a day, and engaging with online learning for only 5 to 10 seconds before moving on. Remarkably, 40% find time for learning and development only on weekends.
The solution lies in targeted coaching through AI tools, which allow companies to scale training effectively and tailor it to individual employee needs.
Matt Breitfelder says: Every successful sports team has a psychologist, in addition to nutritionists and others. They use data to coach them. The military also uses data and coaches. Why do all managers not have this opportunity?

Tim Harrison, CEO of EPOG Academy, highlighted the benefits of AI coaches in education. With one counselor for every 400 students, AI coaches help address personal challenges and are preferred for their non-judgmental and always-available nature. AI coaches complement human coaches by filling gaps in support.
Regarding learning and development preferences, 47% of employees favor AI-powered coaching, 41% prefer formal L&D programs, 30% opt for online training platforms, and 22% choose person-to-person coaching.
This refined approach to training and coaching highlights the urgent need for scalable solutions and the significant benefits of AI-powered coaching in enhancing workplace satisfaction and productivity.
