The Rising Leader Resource: Get Perspective Every Day
I always joke, that “I don’t wake up Mark J. Silverman, grounded and centered coach.? I create him every morning.”
That means I hit the meditation cushion at 0’Dark00, with my usual morning Eeyore disposition, coffee in hand, and get to work.
I read.? I watch an inspiring video.? I meditate, sometimes solo, sometimes guided. Journal.? I mix it up.
I do this for two reasons.
Life, decisions, problems, wins, and people come at you fast, and often a situation can feel bigger than your capacity to handle it.
I work with my clients on expanding their capacity and range so their success percentage goes up with each challenge.
One way of gaining capacity is by consuming great content. Books, Videos, and inspirational Instagram Reels on Spirituality, Stoicism, and Positive Psychology can give you that expanded perspective.
“Change your perspective, change your world.”
This Week’s Video:
Tony Robbins Interviews Michael Singer:? Literally anything by this man will be life-changing.? His podcast (here on YouTube and Apple Podcasts) is free.? The secrets of humanity - free.
Ryan Holiday - This is the Stoic's Secret to Serenity and Success - This is a great video.? Ryan Holiday has done dozens covering every aspect of this very useful philosophy.? I have read almost every one of his books… life-changing.
Jefferson Fisher - Techniques that Make You Magnetic: The title of this one is misleading. It is chock full of great “people” advice.? I have shared Jefferson’s work in this newsletter before.? Follow Jefferson Fisher on LinkedIn or Instagram.
This Week’s Book: Some Books to Change Your Perspective
“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck” - by Mark Manson - Suggested this last week… but yeah, it’s a good one.
“Awareness”- by Anthony DeMello - The most accessible spiritual book I’ve ever read.
Right Thing, Right Now: Good Values. Good Character. Good Deeds. (The Stoic Virtues Series) - by Ryan Holiday - Literally anything by Ryan will help.
“Living Untethered” - by Michael Singer - Simply my favorite spiritual book.

This week’s episode of The Rising Leader Podcast:
Episode 086 | The Rising Leader: Strategies for Successful Executive Transitions with Navid Nazemian, PCC
"Working with a qualified transition coach can de-risk executive transitions by about 50% or more and accelerate the time it takes for an executive to start paying dividends on the investment made in them." - Navid Nazemia
● ? The cost of transition failures at the top level is estimated to be 20 to 30 times an executive's annual salary, with potential ripple effects and significant financial impact on organizations.
● ? External appointments into executive roles are slightly riskier than internal appointments. Studies show that external appointments are 43-47% likely to fail, compared to 34-37% for internal appointments.
● ? Organizations often provide support to externally appointed executives but may fail to do the same for internally appointed executives, despite the unique challenges they may face.
● ? The topic of successfully transitioning out of an executive role, particularly in the last 90 days, is highly unexplored, which is why Navid dedicated an entire chapter to it in his book.
● ? It's valuable to be mindful and structured about the first twelve to eighteen months in a role, as the successor can benefit from these conversations.
● ? The "double diamond executive transition framework" applies not only to CEO transitions but also to departmental leadership transitions, and is based on real-life experiences.
● ? Leadership and people skills are critical for high achievers transitioning into major roles, as they may struggle to understand the impact on people's egos and security.
● ? Tony Schwartz's concept of managing energy, not time, is discussed as a key strategy for leaders.
That’s it.
Lots of love, and have a great rest of the week. ?Roar!

2 个月I really enjoyed reading this, and it made me think about how James Clear talks about identity in *Atomic Habits*. He emphasizes that every action we take is a vote for the type of person we want to become. Your morning routine is a perfect example of casting those votes every day.? I’ve noticed that when I start my day with intention, even something as simple as journaling or reading a chapter of a good book, I feel more aligned with my goals. It’s like setting the tone for the day, and everything just flows better.? I love that you mix up your routine too... keeps things fresh and helps avoid the burnout that can come from doing the same thing every day. I’m definitely going to check out the videos you recommended—especially the one by Ryan Holiday. His approach to Stoicism is something I’ve found really grounding, especially when life gets overwhelming. Thanks for sharing these insights... it’s a great reminder of the power of morning routines in shaping who we want to be.
