Kazakhstan has been making significant strides towards becoming a major player in the world economy. With enormous natural resources, vast agricultural lands, and a strategic location, Kazakhstan's potential for growth and development is virtually limitless, and it has the potential to join the elite group of BRICS countries soon. The BRICS group, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, represents some of the fastest-growing economies in the world and is considered a symbol of emerging global power.
In this article, I will explore why Kazakhstan has the potential to become a member of the BRICS group and how it can become an international powerhouse.
Fueling Growth: How Kazakhstan's natural resources helped build a strong economy
Kazakhstan's economy is primarily based on its abundant natural resources, including oil, natural gas, coal, uranium (Kazakhstan is the world's largest uranium producer), and metals (Kazakhstan has abundant natural resources, boasting 30% of the world's chrome ore reserves, 25% of manganese ore, 10% of iron ore, 5.5% of copper, 10% of lead, and 13% of zinc).
These resources have attracted significant foreign investment, which has fueled the country's economic growth over the past few decades. In addition, Kazakhstan has vast agricultural lands that produce crops such as wheat, barley, cotton, and rice. The country's food exports have also been on the rise, contributing to its economic diversification.
Eurasian bridge: how Kazakhstan seeks to connect the East and the West
Kazakhstan's relationship with its neighbors is complex, but generally positive. The country shares borders with Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Kazakhstan maintains strong ties with Russia and China, both of which are major economic partners. It also enjoys good relations with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, though tensions have arisen between them due to competing interests in the region. The country relies heavily on foreign investment from countries such as China and Russia for development projects such as infrastructure construction. Kazakhstan's foreign policy goals are largely focused on maintaining good relations with its neighbors while also seeking closer ties with Western countries such as the United States and European Union nations. The country seeks to promote regional stability through diplomatic initiatives such as hosting peace talks between warring parties in neighboring countries like Afghanistan or Syria. Additionally, Kazakhstan hopes to use its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia to become an important hub for trade and transportation networks linking East Asia to Europe via Central Asia.

From resource-rich to diversified
To become a global powerhouse, Kazakhstan needs to diversify its economy by investing in new sectors such as technology, innovation, and renewable energy. This will reduce reliance on extractive industries and pave the way for long-term, sustainable growth.
It must continue to prioritize education and human capital development. The country has made impressive strides in this area, but there is still ample room for improvement. Kazakhstani people are renowned for their intelligence and often hold prestigious positions abroad in industries such as consulting, finance, and politics. However, there is still much to be done within the country to provide quality education and training opportunities that will empower its citizens to drive sustainable development in the future.
Kazakhstan must also strengthen its infrastructure, including transportation, communication, and energy networks. This will enable seamless trade and investment, while also improving the overall quality of life for the population.
A promising path towards prosperity and global influence
Kazakhstan has a wealth of resources and a highly skilled workforce well-respected around the globe. By investing in education, diversifying its economy, and improving infrastructure, Kazakhstan can unlock its full potential and become a dominant force in the international market. The country is on the verge of becoming an international powerhouse. By taking the right steps, Kazakhstan can harness this potential and become a major player on the global stage in the years to come!
