The rising demand for EV charging at hotels

The rising demand for EV charging at hotels

It is no secret that hotels have struggled with the dual challenge of increasing revenue per available room (TRevPAR) and occupancy rates?since the pandemic. With the rising cost of living, staff shortages, and inflation exacerbating the situation, hoteliers are turning to a new form of revenue.?

In the last two decades, adoption of EVs has grown rapidly. As a result, hotels must offer services for EV drivers if they are to stand out amongst competition as desirable destinations. However, charging infrastructure is still in its infancy, with less than 7% of charging devices in the UK associated with hotels. The nationwide issue of limited access to EV chargepoints in public settings has led to an emerging concern amongst drivers labelled ‘charge anxiety’.?

As EV adoption grows, ‘charge anxiety’ is becoming an increasingly influential factor when guests make their choice of where to stay. Drivers are seeking convenience regarding when and where they can charge. This presents the hospitality sector with a huge opportunity to capitalise on the growing demand for EV driving guests and play a critical role in developing the UK’s national charging network.

Seize the EV opportunity

In 2035, the UK will ban the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles. The installation of convenient and reliable charging infrastructure is essential for the hospitality sector, which will play a key role in providing drivers with accessible places to charge.

Guests want no disruptions to their stay; that is why it's important to match the time taken to charge, to the time spent in your venue. Providing the wrong type, a limited choice, or poor availability of charging will have a negative impact on attracting and retaining customers, which in turn could lead to a decline in revenue.
