Rising Above Adversity

Rising Above Adversity

I'm Lunga Mpaka, and I was "born and bred" on the dusty streets of Orange Farm, a small township in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was lucky enough to be raised by a strong woman whom I am proud to call my mother. I attended the most disadvantaged schools from primary school till I graduated from high school.

I grew up wanting to be a teacher not because I liked it, but because I was unfamiliar with other professions. After matriculating, I stayed at home for 5 months before landing a position as a Tymebank ambassador at Edge Field Marketing. After one year and eight months, I was admitted to the University of South Africa. I applied for a teaching course but there were no openings, so I was offered an offer in banking.

I had a limited understanding of banking and how it related to financial services. My first year, I did really well on my exams. I started to become quite interested in banking and the industry of financial services in general, thus so far, I’m currently enrolled for NQF level 4 in Short Term Insurance.

To conclude what I have stated above, I have learnt that life does not always favor you and that everything has its own time. All you have to do is wait for the proper time, but review what you are doing while you wait because it may be a path to your destination.
