The Rise of Video Marketing for Non-Profits

In recent years, video marketing has become an increasingly popular way for non-profit organizations (NPOs) to engage with their audience and increase awareness of their cause.

It's no secret that visual content is more engaging than text-based content, and many NPOs are now producing videos to assist with fundraising efforts. But when did this trend start, and why has it become so popular?

Based on my experience, I believe video marketing in the non-profit sector really started to catch fire around 2010. At the time, social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook made it easier than ever for non-profits to share their message with a wider audience.

NPOs saw the potential of video to help tell their stories in a more compelling and emotionally impactful way, and they began investing in video production.

As video production technology became more accessible and affordable, non-profits began producing more and more video content. They used these videos to share their mission, highlight their impact, and call for donations. And as the number of videos increased, so did their effectiveness.

Non-profits saw that video was a powerful tool for storytelling and that it could connect with viewers on an emotional level.

Video can showcase the work that non-profits do in a way that written content or photos can't. It can capture the human impact of your work, tell the stories of the people you serve, and inspire viewers to get involved.

Video marketing has also been fueled by the changing preferences of younger generations. Millennials and Generation Z are more likely to engage with video content than any other form of media. They expect to be able to access content on their phones, and they prefer content that is short, engaging, and shareable.

Smart non-profits have recognized this trend and adapted their communication strategies to meet the preferences of these generations.
