Just returned from a business trip to Goa, and I had a fantastic experience staying at @Craftels, a sustainable resort. Their commitment to eco-friendly practices truly impressed me, and it got me thinking about the growing trend of sustainable hospitality.
Did you know that a whopping 81% of global travelers consider sustainable travel to be important? The hospitality industry is taking notice! Over 60 hotel companies are now part of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, representing a significant portion of the global hotel market.
These hotels are implementing a variety of eco-friendly practices, including:
Resource Conservation: Reducing water and energy usage through efficient appliances, low-flow fixtures, and smart automation systems.
Waste Management: Implementing robust recycling and composting programs, offering refillable toiletries, and minimizing single-use plastics.
Local Sourcing: Partnering with local farms and businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and support the community.
Green Building Practices: Utilizing sustainable materials in construction, incorporating natural lighting, and investing in renewable energy sources.
These initiatives are a great step towards a greener future for travel.
But the question remains: Is this enough?
While the hospitality industry is making positive strides, there's always room for improvement. Perhaps we, as travelers, can also play a bigger role in demanding and supporting sustainable practices.
