The rise of the smart factory

Today the corona virus has the biggest impact of our modern world: borders are closed, stock exchanges crash, stores are closed, schools closed and cancellations of events everywhere.

But the biggest threat for local communities is the dependency of goods from the global market.

The dependency to medical supply from global producers is frightening as the corona virus shows us.

But how can we solve this issue?

I am not against globalization, but I am an enemy of profit margins at all costs. In my opinion the solution could be the so called smart factory.

My definition of the smart factory is an autonomous, 3D Printing and intelligent factory without any persons involved in the execution process.

Because the main reason why companies let products produce somewhere else is lower costs in the manufacturing execution area. Simple spoken cheap resources making products with extremely high margins.

At the end every local community could have its own smart factory and could produce every good which is needed for its own demand. From a higher perspective the factories would be organized in clusters so that in every scenario the production can be load-balanced in cases like pandemics.
