Love is not only in the air but also around the corner, especially in the travel sector, as post-pandemic romance travel is booming. With many couples prioritizing quality time together and no longer waiting for milestone moments, spontaneous romantic getaways have become a cherished way to create lasting memories.
The numbers speak volumes for romance travel. The Destination Wedding Global Market soared from $21.3 billion in 2022 to $28.3 billion in 2023. Journese, a luxury vacation wholesaler, saw a rise in destination wedding bookings, making up 30% of total group bookings.
What’s trending??
Honeymoons top the charts in romance travel, but alternative "moons" like buddymoons, familymoons, babymoons, and minimoons are gaining popularity, with couples also opting for group trips. Around 85% of romance trips seem to focus on sun-and-sand destinations, with the Caribbean and Mexico experiencing a surge in luxury accommodations since the pandemic, driving heavy demand.
Challenges in romance travel
While the love vibes are soaring, staffing levels are taking a hit for some staffing agencies. Resorts, particularly in key on-site wedding coordinator roles, are feeling the impact. Airfare costs are also a hurdle, but they won’t necessarily deter couples, especially on their honeymoons. Love always finds a way, no matter how high the airfare is.
