The Rise of Robotaxi: Revolutionizing Urban Mobility in China
Recently, Baidu rolled out 1,000 “Apollo Go” unmanned cars in Wuhan, triggering a social debate. This means that the concept of true self-driving mobility is getting closer.
Robotaxi opens the potential of a new market
With the rapid development of autonomous driving technology, several Chinese cities now promote Robotaxi services on a large scale. Recently, at the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence (WAIC), Shanghai issued the first batch of driverless intelligent connected car demonstration application licenses to four companies. This marks the approach of true driverless travel mode. Meanwhile, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology solicited opinions on the “Beijing Autonomous Vehicle Regulations.” They intend to support the use of autonomous vehicles for urban public bus passenger transport, online car booking, car rental, and other urban travel services. Additionally, Fuzhou city has opened 52 roads in a 26 square-kilometer area, allowing citizens to experience autonomous taxi services through the “Apollo Go” WeChat mini program.
Relevant institutions analyze that the market size of Robotaxi in China will exceed 1.18 trillion CNY in 2025. By 2030, it will likely reach an astonishing 2.93 trillion CNY. This growth highlights the huge market potential of Robotaxi. So far, Robotaxi have achieved initial success in some cities. Experts believe that as the technology matures and user acceptance improves, Robotaxi will rapidly become popular in the next few years, completely changing the way people travel.
“High-End” Players Compete in Market
Ruqi Mobility officially landed in the Hong Kong stock market on July 10th, becoming the first “domestic Robotaxi share.” Not only so, Tesla will officially launch the FSD-supported Robotaxi in August.
CaoCao Technology also clearly mentioned in its IPO prospectus that part of the funds raised will be used to invest in autonomous driving, and will be working with Geely to install mass-produced L4 autonomous driving system vehicles before future deployment, together to launch driverless taxi plans.

In addition, as the leader of the online dating platform, Didi chose to set up a joint venture with GAC Aian Technology, and plans to launch L4 Robotaxi mass production vehicles next year.
The Future of Robotaxi
Currently, there are two clear tracks in the Robotaxi field: one is the dominance of single car intelligence represented by Tesla, and the other is the alliance formed by OEMs, travel platforms and autonomous driving technology companies to promote technology monetization.
The commercialization process of Robotaxi focuses on three main parts: unmanned, mass production, and commercialization. Currently, the main work centers on unmanned technology. This includes algorithm research and development, partnerships, and constructing business models and data. In contrast to Tesla, which benefits from dual advantages in personnel and energy, most Chinese enterprises adopt a complementary cooperation model. They combine platforms, large car companies, and autonomous driving companies.
