The Rise of LLM Chatbots

The Rise of LLM Chatbots

First came the large language models (LLM), and then came the chatbots, or LLM chatbots, if you may call them – the likes of ChatGPT, Bard, Ernie, Claude and others.

The?battle for AI supremacy has already begun, with OpenAI and Microsoft leading the race to develop next-generation AI models integrated across many products and services. This includes?Bing Search,?Bing Chat,?Microsoft Teams,?and Microsoft Office 365. Similarly, Google has also started experimenting with its conversational AI chatbot,?Bard, powered by its large language model, LaMDA. However, this is expected to be launched in a phased manner or accessible to select groups only.?

While Google, Microsoft, and now Baidu are at it, it is only a matter of time before others join the race, especially those who have already built large language model capabilities, including?Amazon, Huawei, AI21 Labs, and LG AI Research, NVIDIA and others. Check out the illustration below.

Unfortunately, Meta is the only tech giant shying away from launching or developing any large language model chatbot.?

Reason: Multiple failures in the past, especially with large language models and AI chatbots.?

Meta was one of the early players to launch the chatbot?Blender Bot 3 to the public. But, it was short-lived. Within a day or two, the bot took a downturn as it started?spewing racist remarks?and even questioned Mark Zuckerberg’s business strategies. Unfortunately, this led many people to lose trust in the chatbot, and the company ultimately saw a decline in users.?

However, this did not stop the company from venturing into another large language model-based model called?Galactica. But, this time, it was focused on the research community. Unfortunately, that also back-fired quickly as the chatbot started giving out inaccurate results, and?it was later withdrawn.?

The now?anti-LLM?advocate and Meta AI chief?Yann LeCun?seems to believe in perfecting the text models and making something that people can trust with accuracy instead of nose-diving into the current ‘AI boom’ with chatbots.?

This Could Be The End of Bing Chat

A computer science student at Stanford,?Kevin Liu, recently found a secret manual to Bing Chat, where he discovered that the prompt used to set conditions gave insight into how Bing Chat works. This prompt aims to condition the bot to believe whatever the user inputs.?

After this, he asked the chatbot for details of a ‘document’ containing the basic rules of the chatbot.
