?? Rise of LITFOW: Is Your Learning Technology Ready for the Challenge???

Last week's engagements on my article 'Death of A Category' sparked the idea for today's musing.

Today, learning isn't just a one-off event, it's an integral part of the daily workflow. As organisations strive to foster continuous growth and development among their employees, the concept of Learning in the Flow of Work (LITFOW) has emerged as a game-changer. But is your Learning Technology up to the task?

Gone are the days of static training modules and scheduled sessions that disrupt productivity. In the era of LITFOW, employees expect learning to seamlessly integrate into their day-to-day activities, providing instant access to relevant resources and insights precisely when needed. It's a tall order, but one that forward-thinking Learning Technology vendors are actively preparing to meet.

Here are some key expectations around LITFOW and how LMS vendors are rising to the challenge:

  1. Integration with Workflow Tools: Your employees live and breathe within their workflow tools - whether it's project management software, communication platforms, or email. Learning Tech vendors, like ourseleves, are working tirelessly to ensure that learning resources are seamlessly integrated into these tools, eliminating the need for employees to switch context and search for training materials.
  2. Microlearning and Just-in-Time Resources: In the age of information overload, employees crave bite-sized, actionable learning content that they can consume on the fly. Ahead of the game are the organisations who have found a way to support micro-learning initiatives, delivering quick bursts of knowledge that align with employees' immediate needs and challenges.
  3. AI-Powered Recommendations: Personalisation is key to engaging today's learners. Top employers are harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse user data and provide tailored learning recommendations. From suggesting relevant courses to highlighting personalised learning paths, AI is revolutionising the way employees of these companies access and engage with their learning content.
  4. Contextual Learning Experiences: Learning shouldn't be a separate activity—it should seamlessly blend into employees' day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. Learning Technologies are rapidly developing to become tools that deliver contextual learning experiences, providing job aids, simulations, and performance support tools directly within the workflow.
  5. Analytics and Insights: Organisations demand actionable insights into the effectiveness of their LITFOW initiatives. Vendors are required stepping up their analytics game, offering robust reporting tools and predictive analytics features that allow organisations to track learning engagement, measure ROI, and identify areas for improvement.
  6. Adaptive Learning Paths: No two learners are alike. Organisations are embracing adaptive learning technologies that personalise the learning experience based on individual knowledge levels, learning styles, and preferences. By dynamically adjusting content and difficulty levels, adaptive learning ensures that their employees stay engaged and challenged.
  7. Mobile Accessibility: Learning shouldn't be confined to the desktop—it should be accessible anytime, anywhere, and on any device. Prioritizing mobile accessibility, offering responsive design, offline access, and mobile apps that empower employees to learn on the go gives organisations a competitive edge.. for now.
  8. Collaborative Learning Features: Learning is inherently social. Incorporating collaborative features such as discussion forums, peer-to-peer learning, and knowledge sharing platforms that foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among employees and experts should be expected to be a standard requirement in every RFP to be fair.

As the workplace continues to evolve, the demand for LITFOW-compatible Learning solutions will only grow stronger. Is your Learning Tech ready to rise to the challenge, or will it be left behind in the era of seamless, integrated learning experiences? The choice is yours.

Thank you Jim. The concept, i believe, coined by Josh Bersin can benefit a lot by the influx of the new AI tools.
