Rise and Go - Is this book for you?

When we decided that I would become a full-time coach and speaker, the conditions around me had been like a series of green lights. Within a couple weeks, everything changed. COVID-19 had already begun to arrive in the United States, and now it was quickly becoming a global pandemic. Experts were working to try to reduce the spread and impact of the virus.

Some of these efforts included the implementation of travel restrictions, face mask requirements, and quarantines that kept people at home. Additionally, many companies began to implement work-from-home policies. As a result of these efforts, all my speaking engagements were canceled nearly overnight. Just two weeks after my launch into full-time coaching and speaking, 35 percent of my business revenue instantly vanished!

My speaking engagements weren’t the only casualties. I’d also had a few business development trips lined up, including upcoming workshops in Washington DC and Kansas City. Those trips had to be canceled too.

Needless to say, I was scared and frustrated. At that moment, no one had any idea what lay ahead. Would the restrictions last a couple of weeks? A few months? There were rumors that the travel shutdown could last until the end of the year, as other countries were extending their mandates due to the virus’s impact in their countries.

I’d lost 35 percent of my income when my speaking engagements were canceled. Now, what would happen to the 65 percent that came from coaching business leaders?

I wondered:

Would my coaching clients start to drop out as their companies moved to cut expenses?

Did this spell the end of my recently launched, full-time coaching and speaking business?

Would I have to go find a corporate job?

Would I even be able to find a job during the pandemic, if I tried?

Processing these questions sent me into a tailspin. In addition to everyday concerns about family finances, there was also the fact that my oldest child, Kiley, was then a sophomore in high school, so fears of future college expenses were also starting to weigh on me.

I continued to wonder: Had I missed a signal from God? Had he been telling me in February to delay and I’d missed it? Had I jumped into my own thing too early? Was this just another time in my life that I acted not out of wisdom, but out of impatience? I wasn’t sure if or where I’d run off the course God had laid out for me. I longed for answers, and I knew where I was most likely to find them.
