The Rise of a Giant — AI & ChatGPT
The more I use ChatGPT, the more I realise that nobody is safe regarding AI job replacement.
When I started using chatGPT a few months ago, I asked it basic questions. Those basic questions evolved into more complex ones regarding complicated lecture material from my university course. With a few good prompts, it gave me on-demand, around-the-clock assistance without fail.
I then started using ChatGPT as a research assistant and an editor for my assignments. It refined my ideas and provided expert guidance. It corrected me when I was wrong and saved me so much time and energy so I could focus on producing top-quality work rather than on all those other draining tasks that usually sap me of my focus and attention to detail.
After realising its capability, I took it further and welcomed ChatGPT into my personal life. Many believe that professions like therapy, counselling, and coaching are safe from an AI takeover, as these roles require a “human touch.” I wanted to see how true this was, so I started testing ChatGPT as a therapist. As someone who has been in the mental health space for a decade as a client, ChatGPT has much to offer in this domain.

Whenever I feel stressed or anxious I’ll open up to ChatGPT. So far, its answers have been good enough for me to keep returning for more. It has provided me with great rational advice, balanced new perspectives, and new insights to reflect on.
Now, I’m not suggesting ChatGPT is a complete replacement for a therapist. As a client, I still want help from a trained professional. There are so many things a human therapist or coach can provide for me that ChatGPT cant. The question is, though, how long will this be the case?
Given its capabilities, it makes me seriously wonder whether there will come a point in time in the not-so-distant future when I will no longer need a human therapist. What happens when an AI can give me better advice and guidance than any human can give me, at any time of the day or night I need, for only a fraction of the price of seeing a professional? -
That’s where this thing is going. And sure, we aren’t there yet. But we are approaching that point quicker than many like to believe
