Generative AI is coming to your smartphone. Yes, the biggest technology trend in years is landing on your most important device.

Google Cloud announced a new multi-year partnership to bring Google Cloud’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology to Samsung smartphone users around the globe for more product experiences.

With a new partnership, Galaxy S24 users will be able to access Google’s most capable AI model,?Gemini, through apps and services built by Samsung.

According to a study by Counterpoint Research, 2024 will be pivotal for generative AI smartphones, with preliminary data projecting their shipments to reach over 100 million units.

With the Galaxy S24 series introducing Circle to Search, a new feature that lets users search anything on their Android phone without switching between apps. Users can now select images, videos or text on their phone that they’re curious to learn more about with a simple gesture — whether that’s circling, highlighting, scribbling or tapping anything on their screen.

Circle to Search is launching January 31 on select premium Android smartphones — the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro and?the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series— in all languages and locations where they’re available.

Together with Samsung, Google Cloud sees the tremendous opportunity for generative AI to create meaningful mobile experiences that stimulate and strengthen connection and communication for millions,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.

Data Privacy Concern

Galaxy S24 series will also come built-in with Gemin Nano, the most efficient model for on-device tasks, to enable a new feature in Google Messages and ensure their data doesn’t leave their smartphone.

?To run generative AI in a smartphone, the device would need to have hardware that can support the heavy processing demands of AI. As such, the Samsung Galaxy S24 will be using Qualcomm’s premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform.

Samsung will be leading the adoption of generative AI smartphones. The research also predicts Samsung to capture almost 50% of the market share over the next two years, just as it did with foldable devices. Chinese device makers like Xiaomi, Vivo, Honor and Oppo will also be key players in the market.
