RISE - A Gateway To Opportunities For LGBT+ Talent

RISE (Reimagining Inclusion for Social Equity) is Pride Circle ’s flagship initiative. It is India’s Premier LGBT+ Job Fair, working towards inclusion and empowerment for the community.??

We live in a world where members of the LGBT+ community face conscious and unconscious bias, whether it’s at home, school or work. Our aim is to foster inclusion for this marginalized community, by empowering queer folks with better economic opportunities.?

And it starts with skilling and employment.?

The Job Fair is an opportunity for LGBT+ candidates to bring their skills to the table and find jobs in a safe space. And it’s an opportunity for companies to hire affirmatively, from India’s largest pool of LGBT+ talent.?

Barriers and Hurdles to LGBT+ Employees and why RISE is needed

Did you know that LGBT+ individuals face multiple hurdles, and are even shut out of gainful employment opportunities, simply because of their identity?


  • 92% of transgender people in India cannot participate in economic opportunities and seek jobs because of the discrimination they face, according to a report from the National Human Rights Commission.?
  • Data from Glassdoor shows that LGBT+ individuals still face significant discrimination in the workplace. In a survey conducted by The Harris Poll for Glassdoor, 53% of LGBT+ employees reported that they had experienced or witnessed anti-LGBT+ comments from co-workers.
  • In a report published by MINGLE (Mission for Indian Gay and Lesbian Empowerment) in 2016, 40% of the respondents reported that they were often subject to harassment for being LGBT+, and one-fifth said they faced discrimination at the hands of HR and managers.?


With so much discrimination and bias, it’s not easy for queer folks to find jobs. It must also be noted that in the same MINGLE report mentioned above, a whopping 65% of the respondents stated that they take diversity policies into consideration before joining an organization. And diversity is important not just to members of the LGBT+ community, but also straight Millennial and Gen-Z employees, who will soon make up the majority of the workforce.?

Diversity in the workplace means hiring people from various backgrounds, and ensuring they have equal participation along with equal rights and benefits so that they can grow, thrive and lead fulfilling lives at and outside of work. This is where RISE acts as a platform to bridge the gap between LGBT+ talent and inclusive companies.
