If you set aside all that, the actual technology work carried out by people at the lower ranks could easily be done by #GenerativeAI coding. There is very little creative work involved. It is all about maintenance and patching legacy systems for large clients. And, logically, that is the easiest thing to replace.

Shareholders will start asking questions as to why are you paying 400 people, when an AI system can do it at a hundredth of the cost.

#RemoteWork - This particular topic is close to my heart, so.., here's just a Birthday Wish: #FlexibleWork Option - Flexibility of Permanent / Maximum #WFH / Remote Work For All the conscientious employees who deliver more Value than those who just Visit Office ~ #WFO.

I know, some battles are not worth fighting, especially with someone too powerful! So, instead of repeatedly wasting time and efforts on an Inconsiderately biased, Never-ending debate, I just simply Wish that progressively, more and more New-age Employers / Startups / Entrepreneurs / Customers would be Wholeheartedly willing to embrace this Time-tested, Positive Change, and Focus on the Factual Value being delivered, irrespective of the Employee's Work Location.. And "Where there's a will, there's a way.", you know!

WFH => I'd be ready for any kind of surveillance - CCTV / Apps...

Satellite Workplace within commutable distance => I'd work from office, Full Time, 5 days a week, even on Weekend, and even ready to share reasonable expenses, iff needed.

Occasionally, if absolutely necessary, traveling for WFO is also fine.

But inconsiderately unjust coercion for WFO for All is absolutely intolerable!!

Being the only Son to my parents, I/we cannot relocate to the Office Location, in order to take best care of my Parents and Family, and they'd be happiest in our Hometown only.

So, for instance, for 3 days a week - WFO, Every month, it'd cost me nearly 50 hours (for traveling) and 15% of salary (for the expenses) and immeasurable frustration { because I hate waste of time, but I ain't got No Choice (Except #resignation) } .

and.. I'm really glad to know that some of the Highly #Talented Employees from #Apple, #Amazon, #Google etc. also #believe it's Counter-productive.

IMHO, more importantly, Mostly:

+ Unparalleled, Unrestricted Practical Experience across Entire SDLC : From zero to deploy.

+ Far better Growth in terms of Compensation, Roles and Responsibilities.

+ More Focus on Pertinent Technical Competencies.

+ Nearly no heavy burden of Extraneous / Non-technical / Process / Compliance related stuff.

+ No legacy / support projects / ancient tech stack.

+ Better, Genuinely Caring Work Culture. Your voice is heard and Quickly acted upon.

+ Your efforts and contributions are Genuinely Valued commensurately and in a timely manner.


- Probably with certain drawbacks like no PF / other incentives / facilities and occasionally Heavy workload, bumpy ride etc.

But initially, as a Fresher, One's primary target ought to be Continuous learning & improvement, and become expert in his/her area of interest, as fast as s/he can. ?

Then keep pushing your limits, continuous upskilling and stay relevant. ??

? High Performance: Delivered.

And then, ideally, you shouldn't even Have to Ask for what your Rightfully Deserve, Management should take best care of you. ??


Perspectives

My two cents:

?? As a metaphor, in a Cricket Team, why don't we have ALL the All-rounders (Equal) ?!

Everyone has his/her own Unique Role to play, to Win, as a TEAM; Nobody is Forced to become a Batter / Bowler / Wicket-keeper / All-rounder etc.

It's about Team's Requirements and One's Choice and Expertise. If you wanna play, you gotta be a Team Player. Simple as that!

?? Why focus too much on gender-equality ?!

As appropriate, and Mutually, Happily agreed upon, Focus ought to be on what One brings to the Table (Irrespective of Gender / Community etc.) and most importantly, avoiding any unfair, unethical discrimination / favoritism... and ultimately accomplishing Team / Organizational Goals.

In the hands of a creative developer, #ChatGPT has what it takes to be a helpful coding tool. But generative AI may soon attain the capability to act as more than an assistant.
