Human Skills in Demand for Agilists in 2023

Human skills, also known as 'soft skills,' encompass personal qualities and social finesse that enable individuals to interact effectively with others. Organizations participating in the survey identified the following as the standout among the most demanded 9 human skills (and 23 sub-skills):"

Communication: Continues to be the most important skill, today and throughout history. Even if not explicitly stated, the ability in communication is more likely to stand out than other skills.

Attitude Behaviors: It is a broad category encompassing how an individual expresses their mental attitudes. While these attributes may not have been in high demand throughout history, today's employers prioritize them. Hiring someone with a great mental attitude has become easier and more crucial than later trying to improve someone with a weaker attitude.

Functional Skills in Demand for Agilists in 2023 ?

"While technical skills (such as software engineering, data, and cloud computing) still experience high demand, organizations now also expect individuals to apply these skills using modern working methods to achieve better outcomes. In other words, organizations are no longer just seeking employees who can 'do what they were hired for.' They are looking for employees who can think critically, solve problems, and adapt to changes.

The Transition from T-Shaped Skills to Pi-Shaped Skills is Accelerating

"The T-shaped skill representation, where the depth of an individual's core skill set forms the vertical stem of the 'T,' and the breadth of supporting skills represents the horizontal crossbar of the 'T,' is now seen as insufficient. In today's world, employees are expected to develop a second competency and take on a Pi-shaped skill set."

Agile Roles are Evolving…

According to the report, the era of fulfilling a single role, such as a Scrum Master or Agile Coach, is coming to an end. While organizations surveyed may vary, many are seeking individuals with complementary skills, emphasizing a multi-disciplinary approach. Organizations expect individuals providing Agile Coaching support to have domain knowledge and functional expertise. For example, those coaching software teams are expected to have experience in software development."

In the fast-paced and ever-changing world, the key to staying ahead lies not only in technical knowledge but also in having agile skills.
