In a world that often emphasizes cutthroat competition, it's crucial to take a step back and remember the profound impact of supporting others in our journey.
Today, let's dive into the idea that you typically win when you help others achieve their goals first.
1. Collective Growth:
Imagine the adage "a rising tide that lifts all boats." For example, consider a scenario where you share a trending marketing tool or connect someone to a new community you recently discovered with your peers. By fostering an environment of shared knowledge and resources, everyone in the community benefits, gaining access to a valuable resource that enhances their campaigns.
My Own Experience: I've recently jumped all into this crazy entrepreneurial world and while it's been fun, it's difficult to navigate. When you come from a career where your day to day job is laid off perfectly, your time, resources, team, tools, etc are all structured for you, it's a challenge to enter back into a world where those things are virtually endless, and you need to go find them yourself.
I've been lucky to have developed some incredible friendships and relationships over my career so reaching out for guidance has not only been a chance to reconnect or connect for the first time, but it's given me opportunities to think differently. I have friends in various industries with varying skillsets, and while on the surface you might not think that person who runs a CrossFit gym has anything to do with you, I promise you if you're open minded, you can always learn something about yourself, a customer, a process, and business.
Advice: Talk to everyone and anyone. Get to know them. Their stories, their values, their goals, and what lights them up. Take the good, toss out the bad.
Personal Action: Reach out to a fellow entrepreneur in your network and offer to share a demo or guide on the marketing tool you found. Your generosity could spark a collaborative effort that benefits both parties, strengthening the overall expertise within your community.
2. Networking Magic:
Networking isn't just about what you can get; it's about what you can give. When you genuinely support others in their endeavors, you build authentic relationships. An example could be introducing two contacts who could benefit from each other's services.
Imagine connecting a graphic designer looking for new clients with a startup founder in need of branding – by facilitating this connection, you not only strengthen your network but also create a potential collaboration that benefits both parties. (p.s. I know a guy who does this, reach out)
Personal Action: Identify two individuals in your network who could potentially collaborate or benefit from each other's expertise. Take the initiative to introduce them, highlighting how their skills complement one another. This simple act can create a ripple effect of collaborative opportunities.
3. Building Trust and Credibility:
Trust is the cornerstone of any successful business relationship. By consistently supporting others, you establish yourself as a reliable and trustworthy ally. Share a real-world example of a time when you went above and beyond to support a colleague or client, such as covering for them during a challenging period. This showcases the positive impact of trust and collaboration on professional relationships.
Personal Action: Take a moment to reflect on a specific instance where you provided support to a colleague or peer, like stepping in to help with a project deadline. Share this story in a social media post or during a networking event to highlight the importance of trust and collaboration in building a successful business.

4. Personal Growth Through Teaching:
They say that teaching is the best way to learn. When you support others on their journey, you often find yourself explaining concepts, sharing insights, and offering solutions. Share a personal anecdote about how teaching someone else a skill or concept deepened your own understanding and skills. For instance, recount a time when you mentored a junior team member and discovered new perspectives that enriched your approach to problem-solving.
Personal Action: Identify a skill or knowledge area in which you excel. Offer to mentor or guide someone in your network who is looking to develop expertise in that area. The act of teaching will not only benefit them but also enhance your mastery of the subject, fostering personal growth.
5. Positive Energy and Karma:
Call it karma, positive energy, or the law of reciprocity—whatever the label, the principle remains the same. When you genuinely invest in the success of others, you create a positive energy that tends to circle back to you. Share a story about how a small act of kindness or support came back to you in unexpected ways. For example, recall a time when you recommended a talented freelancer to a colleague, and later, they connected you with a high-profile client.
Personal Action: Make it a point to acknowledge and celebrate the successes of your peers publicly. Whether it's a shoutout on social media or a heartfelt email, expressing genuine support contributes to a positive professional environment and sets the stage for positive energy to come back your way.
By actively supporting others, you're also actively raising your hand and supporting yourself. It's a vote yes to you investing in your future and the future of others.
Make it a habit to celebrate the successes of those around us, offer a helping hand, and create a community where everyone can thrive.
In the journey of entrepreneurship and personal development, the real victory lies in lifting each other up.
Stay curious and supportive.
