8 年Tony Atkinson was not only a major figure of public economics, he was also a philosopher in the tradition of political economics. his lifelong work was focused on inequality and poverty measurements and the designing of coherent ways to fight them. He was not only a brillant economist but also a gentleman, a very kind person with humour and without ego; someone with empathy. I remember him as a member of my Phd Thesis jury; he was then defending participating income. I am grateful to have crossed his path. As Thomas Piketty said " we will miss him deeply".
