RIP ChatGPT...?

RIP ChatGPT...?

Just a couple of months ago, ChatGPT used to be my trusty sidekick, helping me with everything from content creation to SEO, and even providing clever one-liners for social media. But lately, it's been serving up uninspired and unhelpful responses that are as bland as vanilla ice cream. Plus, ChatGPT has a bad habit of spouting inaccurate info, which is a real buzzkill. Thankfully, I've discovered more reliable tools like Jasper that deliver great results for specific tasks rather than a generic tool that delivers mediocre results across the board.

I recently read a piece in the Morning Brew newsletter about Salesforce 's recently published research survey in partnership with YouGov on generative AI. While some of the insights were expected, I learned quite a lot about how the perception of generative AI has changed over the course of a few months. Here's my take on it.

OpenAI 's ChatGPT, the talkative AI bot, may be losing its novelty, but there's still a dedicated group of AI enthusiasts who can't get enough of it. They rely on ChatGPT to help with work emails and even ask for shopping advice on a daily basis.

According to a recent survey by Salesforce, around half of the participants have experimented with large language models (LLMs) or other generative AI applications. Surprisingly, about a third of these individuals continue to interact with AI bots daily.

This study also unveiled a generational gap when it comes to AI usage. Gen Z and millennials dominate the AI user base, accounting for a staggering 65% of users. In fact, 70% of Gen Z respondents confessed to using AI regularly.

However, signs indicate that consumers might be growing weary of LLMs. ChatGPT's web and mobile traffic experienced a decline of approximately 10% between May and June. After its initial explosive growth following its launch in November, tech leaders are now grappling with the challenge of making AI products that people truly embrace.

Interestingly, the survey discovered that a whopping 51% of respondents have never used generative AI. Among this group, 88% admitted to being uncertain about AI's impact on their daily lives, while 81% doubted companies' ability to enhance customer service with AI.

In order to encourage wider adoption, 63% of respondents expressed the need for more secure and safer AI technology. Additionally, transparency from tech companies about AI use and integration into existing technology were cited as factors that would increase interest.

When it comes to age demographics, the survey confirmed that the user base of generative AI skews younger, with Gen Z leading the way. It's quite possible that the popularity of ChatGPT as a college essay-writing tool may have influenced this trend.

Apart from the expected uses like entertainment and personal writing, the survey revealed that approximately one-fifth of users rely on AI for tasks such as recipe planning and meal preparation. Furthermore, 18% seek shopping recommendations, 17% consider it a valuable tool for career planning and job searches, and 26% hope to automate workplace tasks with AI.

In conclusion, while the excitement around ChatGPT may be fading, there is still a devoted group of AI enthusiasts who rely on it daily. The challenge for tech leaders now lies in creating AI products that truly captivate users and retains them over years, not months, as loyal users.
