In a recent poll conducted via LinkedIn by Ringo, we asked key decision-makers from HSE, HR, and P&C roles to share their foremost priorities for the coming year.?Thanks to all participants for their views.?The results provide significant insights into the leading focus areas for leaders in high-risk workplaces, revealing a strong commitment to improving safety culture, enhancing safety leadership, and prioritising mental health and well-being.
Improving safety culture was a notable concern for 26% of the respondents.?Safety culture is not just about following protocols—it's about creating an environment where everyone values, understands and practises safety.?The attention to this aspect highlights the drive towards developing a robust and positive safety culture in workplaces where risks are inherently high.

Safety leadership competency was another priority, capturing 32% of the responses.?Safety leadership extends beyond rules and regulations - it's about nurturing a safety culture and fostering an environment where employees feel protected and empowered.?The increased focus on safety leadership competency underlines the significance of role models and safety champions within the organisation, setting standards for others to follow and encouraging a proactive safety culture.
Perhaps most noteworthy was the emphasis on 'mental health and well-being', which garnered 34% of the vote, making it the most significant focus among the respondents.?The prominence of this issue reflects the increasing recognition of mental health as a crucial component of employee health and safety.?In high-risk environments, addressing mental health concerns not only helps improve employee welfare but can also contribute to increased productivity and lower workplace accidents.
Lastly, 'emerging safety themes' were noted as a critical focus for 8% of respondents.?While this was the smallest category, it's critical, signifying the importance of staying abreast of new safety trends, technologies, and concerns that may affect workplace health and safety.
