Right and Wrong at the Same Time
I wrote the following on a whiteboard to see what response I would get:
Can a person be right and wrong at the same time?
The most common response being said is that this is impossible. This is impossible if the only frame of reference is that single person themself, however, if there is another observer then a person can be wrong and right at the same point in time.
To give this some context, a person can think that something is right, based on their experience and knowledge at that point in time. Whereas an observer can think that this same thing is wrong, again based on their experience and knowledge. The figure below shows this where the person standing still in the moving carriage is being told to hold still by the observer.
This all came about when my Scrum Lead posted the Retrospective Prime Directive.
As long as we can honestly say that we did our best based on what we knew at a certain point in time and we learn from these experiences, do we become better at what we do.
