The Right Way vs. The Wrong Way: An Entrepreneur's Perspective

In every industry there is a “right” way to do things….and a “wrong” way to do things.

The wrong way is almost always:

- fast

- cheaper

- more profitable

The right way is almost always:

- slower

- more expensive

- more difficult

But…It almost always:

- creates higher enterprise value

- attracts higher level talent

- makes it easier to sleep at night

As a leaders of business we are always balancing:

- risk and reward

- short term and long term

- cash flow and enterprise value

Having played both sides of the game over the course of my professional career….

It has been my experience that doing what’s right, over a long enough horizon, will produce:

- larger results

- larger impacts

- larger pay days

then playing the short game.

But typing it on LinkedIn and doing it in the real world, are two very different things.

The true test of character is to do what is right even when the wrong way is easier.

Those who choose the right way, despite its challenges, will be rewarded with a stronger, more resilient company, a more talented team, and the satisfaction of knowing they did what was best for their business and their people.
